The sunrise this morning was delicate. The lavender skies were highlighted by pastel pink clouds. The big clouds that brought rain and very cool weather last weekend are gone. We are expecting a high of only 78 today. It is almost Heather weather. She hates to come over to the valley when it is hot.
Today is the last scheduled day for the seniors. They will be consumed by Disneyland trips and graduation practices between now through next Thursday.
We are all looking forward to the end of school. Its been a long and difficult year.
This is day that I big a cake to each of my classes with the names of the graduates on them. I have two graduates at Merced High and one at Golden Valley. When school life gets tough during the year, I use the imagery of this celebration to remind them to keep their eyes on the goal. Most students move out of my classes after the sophomore year so that they may pursue work related training. Some of my students train to work for retirement homes. Others work to learn food preparation in fast food settings. Some learn custodial skills.
At Golden Valley there is a walk off ceremony where the seniors shake hands with the teachers on the way home. We line up gauntlet style (its sad to characterize it that way) and cheer the graduates on. Lockers were cleaned up yesterday. We will continue to teach toward final exams with the rest of the class. It will be hard to maintain their interest.
Have a great day.. Pat
